The name, translated from Afrikaans, means "Still Bay" for those enchanted by the tranquility, peace, and security! Since the late 1800s, Stilbaai has gained popularity as a retirement community and vacation destination. It has extensive stretches of white sand beaches, mild weather, and a 15-kilometer-long river that is navigable. It contains two villages, Jongensfontein and Melkhoutfontein, with a total population of approximately 4000 permanent residents.
Stilbaai provides excellent watersport facilities, including fishing, scuba diving, and many others, in addition to facilities for other sports. The historic little white house in Jongensfontein serves as a museum and information center. The Stilbaai Tourism Bureau contains a historical exhibit and is adjacent to a natural garden. Visit the Jagersbosch Homestead, a National Monument and the renowned Jagersbosch Community Care Center's headquarters.
